Tulsa Nursing Home Ignores Residents In Pain – Pattern of Actual Harm

Ambassador Manor Nursing Center – Tulsa, OK cited for ignoring residents in Pain – Pattern of Actual Harm; located at 1340 EAST 61ST STREET, TULSA, OK 74136.

Based on interview and record review, it was determined the facility failed to provide pain medications as ordered by the physician for three (#2, #3, and #6) of six sampled residents who were reviewed for pain. This resulted in actual harm for residents #2 and #6 when they did not receive pain medications when they were showing signs and symptoms of pain. The facility identified 111 residents as being on a pain management program. changes, etc.
On 11/07/13 at 2:20 p.m., the family member of resident #2 was interviewed. She stated the resident was in a lot of pain on admission to the nursing home and was told he would have to wait until the doctor had confirmed the medications before he would be able to receive any pain medication. The family member was asked if the resident received any pain medication the first day. The family member stated the resident did not receive pain medication the first night and had complained to her the next morning that he had not received pain medication, had been unable to sleep, and was still in pain. The family member was asked if the resident was given pain medication prior to therapy. The family member stated she did not recall the facility ever medicating the resident for pain prior to therapy. She stated the resident hurt during therapy but would not stop because he wanted to get stronger so he could go home. The family member stated, You could tell any of them he was hurting and it did not matter.
