Based on a review of facility policy’s, the facility failed to implement their policies on abuse for one resident (#91) and on misappropriation of property for 10 residents (#7, #43, #44, #49, #65, #74, #75, #87, #93 and #94). Failure of development and implementation of these policies could cause continued verbal abuse towards all residents of the facility and cause residents to not have adequate supplies of medications to meet their medical needs.

State Findings:

The Department of Health & Human Services conducted an inspection of the facility. The following highlighted decencies listed below were found in a public survey. 

Protect each resident from all types of abuse such as physical, mental, sexual abuse, physical punishment, and neglect by anybody.

Based on clinical record review, review of facility investigative documentation, and a review of the facility’s policies and procedures, the facility failed to protect one resident (#91) from staff verbal abuse. The deficient practice could result in an unsafe resident environment.

Protect each resident from the wrongful use of the resident’s belongings or money.

Based on clinical record reviews, staff interviews, and review of facility policies and practices, the facility failed to ensure that physician ordered medications were not misappropriated for 10 residents (#7, #43, #44, #49, #65, #74, #75, #87, #93 and #94). The deficient practice could result in residents not having adequate supplies of medications to meet their medical needs. The sample size was 14.

Develop and implement policies and procedures to prevent abuse, neglect, and theft.

Based on a review of facility policy’s, the facility failed to implement their policies on abuse for one resident (#91) and on misappropriation of property for 10 residents (#7, #43, #44, #49, #65, #74, #75, #87, #93 and #94).
