In The News:

UNDER-STAFFING HAS BEEN LINKED TO HEALTH AND SAFETY VIOLATIONS AND HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO CAUSE PATIENT INJURY AND DIGNITY VIOLATIONS ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS SCIENTIFIC STUDIES.

On March 23, 2017, Pruitthealth-Savannah certified to state surveyors that it had a whopping 2-week average of 3.48 care hours per resident per day (PPD) of certified nurse aide (CNA) time.  This high reported staffing level placed Pruitthealth-Savannah in the top 5% best-staffed (RNs + LPNs + CNAs) nursing homes in the State of Georgia and in the top 3% best CNA staffed facilities in the state.

But the reported 3.48 hours of CNA time per resident per day was not consistent with payroll-based journal staffing records. In fact, there is not a single 2-week period from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2017 where Pruitthealth-Savannah’s CNA PPD level averaged above 2.11 hours per patient day, based on its recently provided payroll-based journal staffing records.  Its daily average was 1.92 hours per resident of CNA time—nowhere near 3.48.

Under-staffing has been determined to cause patient injury and dignity violations according to numerous scientific studies.  (Click here to read some of these studies).

The Institute of Medicine and the American Nurses Association have concluded that each nursing home resident needs a minimum of 2.8 hours of CNA care per day for safety and basic services.  But Pruitthealth-Savannah averaged only 1.92 of CNA care per resident per day from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2017, based on its daily payroll staffing records.

These low staffing levels significantly reduced Pruitthealth-Savannah’s labor costs.  According to its most recently published Medicare Cost Report, Pruitthealth-Savannah generated annual gross revenues of $14,793,003.
