Golden Harvest provides update on community help
Nursing Homes Abuse Advocates are here for all those that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. We will continue to work with communities and skilled nursing facilities to ensure their needs are heard and met. We advocate for all to get involved in the relief effort by making a donation or contributing your time.
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Golden Harvest says they have called in both state and national resources to help assist them in their response.
They say that the organizations “Feeding the Carolinas”, “Feeding Georgia”, and “Feeding America” have staff, food and water making their way to the area now.
They also have other organizations coming to their aid.
Because their generators are broken, Atlanta Community Food Bank came to rescue their frozen products.
They say this is going to be a long recovery but right now, their main focus is getting people food and water.
Amy Breitmann is the CEO and president of Golden Harvest. She says this is a national-level crisis — one much bigger than Golden Harvest can handle.
“Yesterday, we were able to get out one truckload of water. We focus on Richmond County, because obviously, water is out in that county, widespread. And so, we are going to be triaging today and figuring out where we can best direct our resources. We’ll be doing at least one food and water distribution today and then ramping up as we can,” said Breitmann.
Right now, Golden Harvest says what they need is volunteers.
This is also the first time they have had to close the soup kitchen downtown, but they are working to get that back open as quickly as they can.
