SEARCY, AR – Failed Wound Care Practice Leads to Actual Harm

Located: 1205 SKYLINE DRIVE, SEARCY, AR 72143

Please Note: The following highlighted quoted text is only a portion of the full report/survey. The full report/survey can be found here.

Give residents proper treatment to prevent new bed (pressure) sores or heal existing bed sores

Level of harm – Actual harm

Based on observation, record review and interview, the facility failed to ensure a system was in place to assure thorough skin assessments and prompt identification of new areas of skin breakdown for residents at risk for the development of pressure sores to prevent delays in treatment and failed to ensure pressure relieving devices were used to prevent further skin breakdown for 1 (Resident #1) of 3 (Residents #1, #2 and #4) case mix residents who were at risk for the development of pressure sores. This failed practice resulted in a pattern of actual harm for Resident #1 who experienced deterioration of his right heel resulting in infection and hospitalization and had the potential to cause more than minimal harm for 20 residents who were at risk for skin breakdown

It never fails to disgust me so, that people won’t take care of our family members. What if it were them that had to be taken care of in a nursing facility. These people will answer to a higher authority at the end of their lives. Don’t see how they sleep at night!

This is not about Searcy wound care. It is about UAMS In little Rock. My sister Debra Webster was in there for about 6 weeks and developed a bed sore at the end of her spine. She had messed her bed and I went to tell the nurse and she said she wasnt going to clean it up cause she had just cleaned her up an hour before. I asked her if she was going to just let her lay in the mess for another hour and she said yes. I then told her she needed to do it now, asap She didnt want to but i argued with her until she finally did. Mind you she had a bed sore. They almost killed her with their treaments She went in Jan7 for blockage in her legs and did not walk until just about a month ago. She still cant walk sometimes withodut help cause they let her toes get infected and has had to have her 2 big toes amputated and is still having a lot of pain even though she is being treated every day At WRMC Batesville , Ark. I am writing this hoping someone will check into UAMS and the way they treat their patients. There was numerous other things like hemoraging 3 different times and had to be taken into surgery all three times to stop it, because they had put a vaacum like hose up her rectom , im guessing so they didnt have to clean up the poop and in doing so they ruptured a main artery in her rectom causing the hemoraging. This hospital needs to be checked out or closed one. Sincerely Donna Franks, Sister of the Patient.
