UNDER-STAFFING HAS BEEN LINKED TO HEALTH AND SAFETY VIOLATIONS AND HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO CAUSE PATIENT INJURY AND DIGNITY VIOLATIONS ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS SCIENTIFIC STUDIES.

On August 22, 2017, AFTON OAKS NURSING CENTER was cited for failing ACTUAL HARM to a resident died after his penis split open from the top to the bottom and was “filleted.”

Every month from November 2017 to January 2018, AFTON OAKS NURSING CENTER received a HEALTH INSPECTION rating of 1-star out of 5 from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), the lowest rating possible for a nursing home.

Under-staffing has been determined to cause patient injury and dignity violations according to numerous scientific studies.  (Click here to read some of these studies).

The Institute of Medicine and the American Nurses Association have concluded that each nursing home resident needs a minimum of 2.8 hours of CNA care per day for safety and basic servicesBut AFTON OAKS NURSING CENTER averaged only 1.76 hours of CNA care per resident per day from January 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017, based on its daily payroll staffing records, as published by CMS.

These low staffing levels significantly reduced AFTON OAKS NURSING CENTER’s labor costs.  According to its most recently published Medicare Cost Report, AFTON OAKS NURSING CENTER generated annual gross revenues of $11,005,500.
